Cleary Estate

In 1993, responding to a desperate need for residential care for disabled people,
the Cleary Estate Cheshire Home opened its doors to forty severely disabled adults from the local community.
The Home has over the years had to face considerable financial challenges, but with the support of so many,
has managed to overcome and create a wonderful service to an impoverished community.
The Cleary Cheshire Home accommodates residents with a variety of disabilities.
Many of them engage in a variety of working activities and hobbies to pass the time and create a sense of purpose.
Volunteers form a crucial part of life at the Home.

...I have gotten over the shock of waking up and not being able to feel my body.
I was returning from running my best Two Oceans marathon, as pleased as can be.
We were all talking about the race, about the hard parts, the easy ones and the camaraderie.
We all promised that we would return back the following year to try and beat our times.

And then, there was an awful noise.
Our tyre burst and our whole car flipped through the air three times.
I was the only one hurt.

My life as a quadriplegic began...

Cheshire Homes has been my home, my refuge and my friend.
I have no idea where I would be if it wasn't for them.
